July 13th 2012
and then there was WW 2012
(ww = Warriors and Warlords)
We arrived yesterday around 2pm when it was in the high 90F we set up camp next to a few of our good friends who were set up in the very little shade that is one site. Eventually camp was set up and we removed all our belongings off of our friends front porch, all except my black rubba-boots ^-^
Most of my Thur was spent hiding under a shade tarp until the sun went down where a large group of people gathered in the moonlight next to the large campfire. it was here I shared a blanket with a friend to keep the moist dew of the night off us, while we listened to the many wonderful stories of the night.
By 8am on Friday (today) it seemed to be in the 90F's again; so I gathered what was around, garbed up and headed to Shadewes Camp where again I hid under the Shade Tarp and hung out and did some loom work while we all chatted.
By time 1:30-2pm Rolled around I would guess the temp was about 100F and a good 10 or more of us mustered and headed to the Archery/Thrown Weapons field. Once we arrived we were informed things changed and there was to be a tourney shortly and not an open shoot, so our group shot one round and then headed back under shade.
But I took a few of us over to the TW field. I had only done this once before at another event but I didn't do to bad this time around either. I think I like this new sport!
Soon after the few of us that were left on the TW Field returned to Shadewes Camp it was time for their meeting to start. so those of us not a member of their household hung out under another shade fly and enjoyed an hour or so of light chatter. The heat was ridiculous, in the shade you were still so unhappy yet there was no way of fixing it. plus its about 4 or 5pm by this time and I had yet to have a real meal since noon the day before. sure I was drinking water and such but it was not the same thing.
Soon the two of us heard our names being called from the other Shade Fly. You see the two of us were being put on watch if the group voted us in. We were both very nervous and excited at the same time. There were many happy smiling faces, lots of shtick, and massive hugs all around. I became a Watchee around 6pm today.
But abruptly before I could receive all my hugs, two of the members grabbed me threw me in their van and took me into town for a real meal and AC. I love my new SCA Family. We arrived back to site around sun down where we again just chilled and eventually went to midnight madness at merchants.
We then snuck off from the group we were shopping with and found a quiet pavilion and pick-nick tables to sit on and talk for a good hour or more. You see I had not gotten to talk to my own B/F all event yet, it was good to catch up. We decided the showers had no lines at what had to be midnight by this point so we headed to take a nice warm relaxing shower. Then we herd it... plick, drip, plick... it was raining....
