Day 2 of WW
It all started about 12: 20am, while I was taking my nice shower it started to rain. Nothing to big just small drops and I thought no big deal.
By about 1AM we were caught in a massive storm. In one fast moving swoop lightning, thunder and sheets of rain engulfed our event. everyone frantically getting things into their tent, staking down their tents, covering items, taking down shade flys, stacking up chairs ect...
Once we had our tent and items under control, I recalled I had left my bow, arrows, loom and other items under a shade fly in another camp so we ran over there and were drenched in .2 sec, the wind was almost ripping off our cloths it was so strong. once in their camp I found some of my items and the other (more important ones were no where to be found) I herd someone yell that they were in someones tent and to just seek shelter.
Now my little brain saw a few of my friends and now SCA family struggling, I wanted to help I wanted to stay, but it was brought to my attention I was of no help and to get the hell back to my tent and be safe.
Once back in the dryness of my tent I found dry cloths and layed awake from the rain darting at my head because the tent wall was 2 inches away from my head, the lighting and the ground moving thunder... as well as the worry for others that just lost their tents and everything in it.
Soon, a little prior to 3am the storm just stopped abruptly. And everyone came out of their tents to assess the damages and rebuild. I emediatly ran to the camp we just left to find everyone safe, they lost two tents and a few items but they were safe. after that we headed to the Rapier feild to make sure the Northshield pavilion was still there as well as other items. when we arrived there, all was still upright but there was a smell of burning and people moving about.
There was a truck, one of our guys was driving around site to make sure everyone was alright. The thing was he was outside of the truck checking on someone. His wife just got into the cab seconds before the lightning struck the truck, luckly it grounded itsself through the tires. His wife is fine but we suspect she will gains super powers soon though.
Eventually we fell back to sleep with the sound of hammers and tent stakes being put back into the ground, to be awoke again at 4:30am by local alarms going off. so once again everyone comes out of their tent to find someone with a smart phone who can check the weather. It seems that was just their volunteer fire dept call and the storm was not returning. so we all went again back to sleep to just we woke back up at 7 to 9am 90F heat.
I slowly dressed and headed out of the tent and to the camp where my friends were. everyone was cleaning and putting things back the way they were and heading to breakfast in town and took me with. Again real food and AC.
Once we arrived back to site I headed over to the list table where I was to run two tourneys. it was nice to be there under shade and having fun with the rapier fighters. the time soon found 4pm and we headed back into town for dinner and AC, and a fun local story. You see the lighting hit a house and it exploded from the inside. and that is what the alarms were calling. We get back to site to quickly change and head to Royal court, which lasted WAY to long 6-8pm from there feild tear down started and I was carting booze from one tent to our party for the night, once those things were done it was time to get into costume.
The yearly Shadewes party's theme was Apocalyptic. I went as Tank Girl and had a blast!
