My first CFL game on TV for my “home town proud” moment here in Edmonton. Its true they wear green and gold its true from afar they resemble my green and gold packers. But I don’t think it will be quite the same. I’m told we barley get to see NFL here so I’m going to miss that greatly.

The field is different for one The Canadian football field is 110 yards long and 65 yards wide with end zones 20 yards deep. At each goal line is a set of forty-foot high goalposts, which consist of two uprights joined by a crossbar 18.5 feet long which is ten feet above the goal line. The goalposts may be H-shaped (both posts fixed in the ground) although in the higher-calibre competitions the tuning-fork design (supported by a single curved post behind the goal line, so that each post starts ten feet above the ground) is preferred. The sides of the field are marked by white sidelines, the goal line is marked in white, and white lines are drawn laterally across the field every 5 yards from the goal line.
Basically the low down differences areThe NFL has their field being 100 yards long and fifty-three yards wide. The End zone will be the width of the field and 10 yards deep. The goal posts are centered in the middle of the field in the back of the end zones at each end of the field.
Also the flags thrown on the field are different colors. The yellow one is not for a foul or penalty. It is for the coach to call to review the play to challenge it you might say. And the orange almost red flag is to call a penalty on the play.

I don’t have a list of their penalties but in theory they are the same but they use different words to describe them. I never herd holding or facemask or false start or anything normal. “Minor violation’ is one I remember them calling.
In the CLF you have 3 downs to get ten yards while in the NFL you have 4 downs to get ten yards and a first down. Some of the penalties are the same. The rules for the NFL are that there are only 11 players allowed on the field at one time. The cleat restrictions are that there cannot be metal in the interchangeable or molded cleats and the interchangeable cleats cannot exceed 1 and 1/2 inches. The lettering on the sidelines is the same. The end zones are 20 yards deep and the width of the field. In the CFL you can have 13 players on the field at a time due to the larger playing field. There is hitting the kicker and holding but there is a different name for a couple of the penalties. This sometimes makes for larger plays. In the CFL this causes more emphasis on the pass plays rather than in the NFL in which most teams like to run the ball more than pass. Then the usual penalties apply such as roughing the passer, pass interference, unnecessary roughness, and The amount of Officials on the field is ht same in both Leagues and they have the same names. The poles will extend 40 feet up into the air.
